7th - 8th grade

7th and 8th grade Spanish Program

My name is Alcira Hernandez
I followed the common standards to plan all the lessons for 8th grade. This year, I will teach 11 different themes or chapters during the school year. Each chapter has grammar, reading, writing, and cultural elements about people who speak Spanish. In addition, we will have special projects for the Independence Day of Latino countries, Day of the Dead, and Christmas traditions in different countries. Students will watch different movies in Spanish to practice listening and comprehension. We will discuss vocabulary and cultural themes.
Every day, we will start the Spanish class with a prayer in Spanish. Then we will follow a routine in class to practice the days of the week, the months, the seasons, numbers, colors, and the alphabet.
The material I will be teaching comes from different text books like: “Avancemos1!, Buen Viaje, and Así se dice. In addition, I use a computer program called VOCES, where students will have the opportunity to interact with this material and they will submit some assignments online using the program.
I reviewed high school textbooks so I could better prepare students this coming year to be ready for the material taught at the high school level.
Late Work: Work turned in three days late will be accepted but will start grading at 50%. Any work turned in later than one week will receive a 0. If students are having problems understanding homework, they are encouraged to approach me during my daily prep time or contact me to set up a time where I may provide assistance in completing the work.
